PIP Refused, mandatory reconsideration templates?

Hi I have just had my PIP application refused, I scored no points on any module which I find unbelievable. I would like to submit a mandatory reconsideration, but I cant find the member guide for this on the website. Could you please direct me? Also do I need to see the Health Professionals report before I do this to see what they said in detail, and if so, how do I request that in the time limit? I have a report on the refusal letter which is quite brief. Thanks.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Hi Gordon, thanks for that advice. I have seen a basic short template of a mandatory reconsideration request form in your guides...it is quite short. So at this stage should I just be asking for this without getting a copy of the medical report first? Or do I wait until I want to lodge an appeal and then ask for a full copy of the face to face medical report then? Then I can go through each point in details.
I just dont want to submit a long mandatory reconsideration letter detailing all the points I think are wrong, if this is not the appropriate time to do it...
Thank you

As advised in my previous post, request a copy of the assessment report now, delay making the MR request until you receive the report unless it means that the DWP will not receive your request within the one month normally allowed. The Decision Letter will give you a basic understanding of the reasons your claim was refused.

Thanks for that Gordon. I just phoned them and the lady said she would put the request in to send me out the assessment report. She said it could take up to 3 weeks to arrive which is nearing the months deadline, so she said when I receive it, to phone them back, say I have received the report and want to request another 28 days to submit my mandatory reconsideration request.
Lets hope that is right and they give me that time to do it !

Thank you
