Home Assessments Recorded? was created by Marie-Anne
Hiya,

I have sent in a doctors letter with my esa application form asking for a home visit but they still sent me a home visit. I had to cancel this as received the letter Thursday to go Monday. Where I would need a carer and I have agoraphobia which I basically have terrible problems going places and mental health and physical health issues. They said they would book another date and then I asked for it recorded and then they have booked yet another date and asked to send yet another doctor letter stating why I cannot attend and about a Home visit request. I have sent this but it’s been now over a week since I sent it by fax they have it and no one has dealt with it. My assessment is 28th March so I am hoping they will have come to decision by this time. Does anyone know how long it takes after sending in dr’s letters how long it takes to make a decision for a home visit also can Home visits be recorded? As I have been told they cannot!?
You advice will be grateful

Which benefit is this for?

Your GP letter needs to be unambiguous about your ability to attend at their offices, any suggestion that you can will significantly undermine the letter, so the one that asked for a home assessment was likely rejected because of this.

I would expect them to make a decision about one in no more than a week, so I would chase them for an update.

For ESA they should be able to record your assessment at home as the equipment is portable.

For PIP, the Assessment Providers do not provide recording facilities, the claimant must.

Hiya a gordon,

Should have said ESA I was in a support group for 5 years and got a new application to fill. This is the first assessment they have asked of me as no one assessed me last time as went straight into a support group. My doctor has stated is due to my agrophobia and disabilities feels it is better I have a home visit.
But the issue may have come about due to the esa 113 form they send doctors!. My doctor made an assumption I can get to places with a carer and ticked I can do transport or cab. I actually cannot do either and this was a lack of not reading medical records from my previous psychiatrist and therapist 5 years which hasn’t changed. She apologised but her mistake has probably caused my first doctor letter not being looked at now again. What can I do on this grounds of a doctor doing such a thing as this could actually cause me to not have a home visit hopefully they go by the new dr letter but she did this before I knew about what she had ticked on the 113 form. So I feel like getting her to ring them or sending yet another that she was incorrect about transport and can. I only ever go with a carer in their car and for short journeys this is a long journey and in and environment that will affect me agrophobia. Thanks Marie-Anne

OK so the first thing is to cal Maximus and find out what their opinion is of the new letter.

Have you seen the GP's second letter?

Does this second letter say "feels it is better I have a home visit"? If it does then this may be insufficient, as I said in a previous post, the letter needs to say that there are no circumstances where you can attend.

The situation is recoverable but you need to find out what is happening before you can take any futher action.

Hiya,

I still haven’t had a response about if I am having a home visit or not. It’s next week Wednesday my assessment that I have to go to which of course I’m under exterme anxiety and stress and has caused me quite a manual breakdown here of how I’m possibly to attend Croydon branch which is over an hour away I also have a small child at 6 months old and leaving her without me with someone is stressful as she be upset if I am not in the room and she can’t attend the meeting either as it’s not her environment and will just cry and with this I just literally can’t with my agrophobia right now. They keep telling my carer it’s with a health professional to look at and hope to be seen by end of week. But they haven’t made a decision on this. When it comes to my appointment again can I cancel on the grounds that my Home visit hasn’t been looked at still and a decision hasn’t been made? As the first one was cancelled due to me unable to attend as have me a couple days notice, and told me I needed a letter from my doctor. Even though there is a full statement from me of why I can’t attend a face to face assessment and a doctor saying a home visit would be suitable as has difficulty travelling. Now the new doctor letter states due to agrophobia and other mental health reasons I have saying MarieAnne feels she is unable to travel to attend due her agrophobia so the doctor would support my request for a home visit. I can’t see after no a letter stating first time round doctor saying I find it unable to travel and would need a home visit, my statement and then another doctor letter. Why they are sitting on this and causing me more mental anxiety and nearly a breakdown thinking I have to attend this somewhere I can’t!. Who are Maximus? Is this the people who are dealing with the cases of Home visits etc? I need so much advice right now/

As this appears to be your second appointment you cannot cancel the one that is now booked, doing so will result in your file being returned to the DWP for failing to attend with the likely result that your ESA claim will be closed.

Maximus will not contact you to tell you that they are rejecting a home assessment, so you need to chase them up about this.

If the letter says "Marie-Anne feels she is unable to travel..." then I'm afraid it is not going to get your a home assessment, all that the GP is doing is replaying your words, not offering their own opinion about whether you can attend or not. This is a common problem we see on the forum, you need to find out whether it is due to your GP not having enough information to make a statement about your problems or whether they don't think that your problems are serious enough.
