Re: Recent Move to UC, still received ESA was created by MistyBlue
Hello to you all,
I was awarded DLA highest rate some years ago, was part of the Benefits Integrity Project, My award was lowered and then on appeal reinstated for life, or as it is now indefinitely.
I moved from Inc Support and SDA in 2013 to ESA WRAG Support group, and was told initially it would be reviewed in 2 years. I wasnt asked to attend a face to face assessment or medical.
I hadn't heard anything further until recently, when I have applied for Universal Credit as my area is Full Service. This went better than expected, however I did have many appointments at the Job Centre to do my Commitments until eventually I was moved across as I should have been.
I just received the UC50, which from your notes I understand is the same as the ESA50?
I've had 2 strokes, and an auto immune illness plus various complications.
Is this usual to be asked to complete the UC50 when I have been migrated across? I still receive my ESA Contribution based benefit, and the UC is essentially the housing component.
I am yet to move from DLA to PIP but I expect this to happen fairly soon given all the other changes.
Can I expect the same transition, or are things different now than they were a few years ago?
I would say, my condition is worse, having had the second stroke and many TIA's since.
Any advice and help would be most appreciated. Just looking at the form seems daunting
this time around. I don't always absorb information in the same way and memory is greatly affected.
Many thanks

The process should be the same as when you were transferred to ESA but there have been some changes to guidance that the DWP issue so please refer to our ESA Claim guides to help you complete the UC50. See

Hi Gordon,
Thank you for your reply. I'm just wondering, having read through the notes, why I have been sent the UC50? Or is this a matter of course?
When awarded UC, their letter mentioned being reviewed in 3 months, I claimed in January and awarded/first payment was February 16th.
As I completed the ESA50 and was placed straight into the support group, and this time having to press that I am not capable for work and should be moved straight across during my claim for UC, there are no To Do messages on my UC account, should I query this?
KInd regards

Were you receiving Income Related ESA prior to moving to UC?
If not then is being treated as a new claim and this is why a UC50 has been issued. Unlike ESA which a single benefit with two payment methods, UC and New Style ESA are actually separate benefits.

Hi Gordon
I received a message on my online UC account saying to ignore any WCA form and that I won't be reassessed for the time being.
Then 20 minutes later, a message saying I've been overpaid £600 odd! I tried to speak to UC, he seemed to think there must be an error, and that they had accounted for Income related ESA,
which mine is contribution based.
I then called ESA, he seemed to think otherwise. The UC agent said she has contacted ESA to confirm Im contribution based, the ESA agent said it's marked as CB/IB but is actually CB!
Confused!!!
So, Im still none the wiser .... any ideas? The ESA chap was very helpful and said if it ends up there is an overpayment, from mid Jan to beginning of March, I should contest it as it wasn't my doing, and all details of benefits were available and shown when I attended the Job Centre.
The UC agent will contact me as soon as she hears from ESA, she said her letter showed Income related, which I know is not the case.I'm hoping this is an error ..... I've only had 1 payment so far, 2nd due tomorrow.
Kind regards
Deena

Not really, however, it is possible that the overpayment is due to them not deducting your Contribution Based ESA from your UC. As far as I am aware all UC overpayments are recoverable whoever is at fault so I would be cautious with your spending until the matter is resolved.
