UC information? was created by Susanne Marie
I am on ESA Support, the area I am in is due to go over to UC at end of year, I understand that when it dose and I get migrated, assuming I am assessed correctly I will get the same income as ESA Support group? but on the UC instead? Is that right. But I have opportunity to move to more suitable housing, that is in a different county council area, they are to be fully UC next month, my move, if it goes ahead would be after new area becomes fully UC. I have read that if I move into a fully UC area, that although I am now on ESA Support, because I am moving, rather than they transferring me onto UC, I will not get the gaurranteed same amount of money, but will loose about £50 per week? Is this so. Tying to find information on this is so hard. Also claiming UC I understand is on line? Do they do the disability bit of UC on line as well? Please can you explain how the UC is going to work. I also read that even though I am in the support group, under UC I will then have to attend the job Center, disbit being in support group, is this so? I’m worried, maybe I’d be better to not move, I know I will be mirgrated at end of year anyway, but if I loose out financially by moving to another area to get more suitable housing, why would that mean I loose money, just because new area has already become fully UC, I’m confused?

Hopeful

This only applies to Income Related ESA.

If you stay in the same area, then just because your area has gone UC does not mean that you will be moved to it, this will happen but not for several years.

However, if you move to a Full Service UC area and you need to make a new claim for a UC benefit such as Housing Benefit then your ESA award will be migrated, as this would be classed as a Natural migration there is no Transitional Protection and this could mean you lose money as a result.

Whether this is the case for you primarily depends on whether you are receiving any Premiums with your ESA as the majority of these are not payable under UC.

I would strongly recommend that you get face to face advice before making any decisions.
