ESA FTF reassessment was created by jayjay
Hi it’s been 3 years since my last paper based assessment and I've just completed the WCA form they sent me last month to be returned next Tuesday. I’m 63 and moved from long term IB to ESA SG 6 years ago but I've never had a FTF assessment interview fortunately. However In addition to my existing condition I was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer T3N3 last year and finished chemo in November. My brilliant cancer nurse specialist has filled in p24 of the form indicating that ‘side effects are likely to limit all work’ and I have the oncology consultants letter explaining that I am at high risk of cancer recurrence within the next 24 months however I have painstakingly filled in the rest of the form describing how the effects of my pre-existing condition and cancer affect me. I’m aware of "the exemption from the limited capability for work-related activity assessment, allowing you to join the support group" (form your excellent guide p15) and I’m too worried about that aspect of things, my question is do you think I will I need to attend a FTF interview ?

It's impossible to say. I think it's unlikely but nothing you have referenced specifically makes one unnecessary so it is not a slam dunk.

I am concerned that your nurse only makes reference to "work", this would only qualify you for the WRAG, not the Support Group, but I may be being too picky.

Thanks Gordon, I was just concerned remembering something about a “rule”if you had never had a FTF before Sep 2017 then all those in SG would have to have one before they can be reassessed again from the paperwork.?
I thought that recovering from chemo treatment which I am would qualify me for SG? As long as the decision maker is satisfied that I should be treated as having limited capability for work-related activity.
Re the nurse on p24 of my WCA form gives a detailed description of my diagnoses and treatment and in the tick boxes which refer to “WORK” “in your opinion is it likely the impact of treatment has or will have work-limited side effects”(YES) and, “In your opinion, are these side effects likely to limit all work (YES) then, “In your opinion how long would you expect these side effects to last” the nurse goes on to give a pretty accurate description of the problems I have and will continue to have using key words together with “He will struggle with…””He will have…” and in response to how long would you expect these side effects to last uses phrases like for the “foreseeable future” and “for years to come”I get a bit confused as to exactly how the different groups are assigned. Does the nurses comments above sound as if they would support me to remain the SG which iv'e always been in based on my pre existing illness.
Thanks jj

I'm afraid that I am not aware of any such "rule"

Although recovering from Chemotherapy should place you in the SG it does not preclude a F2F being done, it's unlikely that one will but it is not 100%.

The nurses comments should be sufficient but it will depend on the comments that she has written rather than the boxes that she has ticked. If they have filled in these forms before then they should know what to write.
