PIP F2F assessment was created by Darren
Hi Guys,
I received a letter this week telling me that an HP will be visiting me at home for a medical assessment on Tuesday 20th March. I suffer from severe chronic pain in my neck, back, hips, knees hands and feet (awaiting further surgeries) and living with depression and social anxiety, so I'm absolutely terrified to say the least. I have been on middle rate care high rate mobility DLA for a couple of years and was awarded it without F2F. My biggest fear is that the assessor will insist on making me do things that will cause me extreme pain and discomfort, do I have to comply with every little test that they want, or can I refuse any that will cause me to experience unnecessary suffering?. Your advice is greatly appreciated

You can refuse any request that would cause you unreasonable physical or mental distress, just make sure that you explain why you are doing so.

The PIP Claim guide has a section that covers the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

Best of luck for tomorrow.

Thanks for your reply Gordon, I forgot to mention my history, I've been living with Ankylosing spondylitis for 28 years and in the past 7-8 years my health has worsened with extensive Osteo arthritis in most joints, DDD and narrowing of my spinal canal, I literally can't stand without severe pain and discomfort never mind walk. Your guides were of great assistance when applying for ESA and DLA in the past few years which was extremely stressful. Apart from the past 7years, I had always managed to work despite my health issues, but now it's too difficult and caused me to sink into depression because I hate having to rely on benefits. My experience of the F2F for ESA was awful, being made to do things that caused me a lot of pain and being roughly handled then the HP blatantly lied in his report and I had to do a tribunal at which they granted me ESA support group after only a few questions. That is why I'm terrified about having the same treatment tomorrow .

Hi Gordon,
I forgot to ask the following -
would the assessor be likely to ask to see all my medication, should I have it to hand for them to inspect,
Are they allowed to have a look around my home,
Is it alright for me to keep my copy of the application in front of me for reference because I sometimes get a bit of a brain-fog when my anxiety levels are elevated.

Sorry if these are silly questions, I'm just really anxious about this assessment tomorrow, I don't think I'll sleep at all tonight.
Regards, Darren

Yes, have your medication to hand, make sure that you have the original packaging as it has details of the prescription.

They are visitors in your home and have no more right to look around then any other one, so it is entirely up to you, but it's very unlikely that they will ask.

Yes, you can have a copy of the form or any notes with you, but if you refer to them then explain why you are doing so.
