Hello
I need help and advice, my mum has bad depression and agrophobia and fear of social interaction along with other issues, I have managed to look after Mum over the last seven years with a friends help, but finding all the new forms and requirements overwhelming. Mum is in a constant state of panic and anxiety and Iam beginning to feel the same way.

Mum been on pip for 5 years+ she currently receives high care and low level mobility last granted over 12 months ago was not due to be reassessed again till Nov 19 so surprised to get the reassessment form also got ESA form too again not due till next year. After working my way through your great guides I sent in the forms in . Sent a letter explaining the difficulties my mum has day to day also explaining that unable to get GP info due to mums GP of 10 years retiring last year since then Mum refused to go to GP only seen rota GP twice at which she just asked for medication and wouldn’t discuss anything else.

Week later got app for assessment but had a hospital apt that I couldn’t cancel so Mum had to go with a family friend, we have to give Mum so much medication to get her to leave the house, which makes her unaware of her surroundings etc. Needles to say the HP took one look at Mum and said she was too unwell and not fit to be assess. The HP said he would try for an paper based review or home visit. The friend who took Mum told the Health Profession that it had been a nightmare getting Mum there and that a home visit would cause the same distress and panicked state she was in, as she would need the high dose of medication to allow me or friend to allow the Health Care person into our house as she has a fear of people coming into the house.

I had to contact the pip unit on Friday, I was told they couldn’t do a paper based review as there was not enough information, ie nothing from GP to confirm what was on the Form and they have now said she needs a home visit which I have agreed to. But Mum is so stressed out saying she won’t let anyone into the house. I don’t know what to do for the best!
The only way to get the HP into the house would be to lie to Mum and give her higher dose of tablets but that means she won’t be coherent enough to answer and they have already said that neither I or helper(family friend) can answer for Mum.

Also to make things worse I now have my exam dates which is on the Same date as mums face to face and even if I cancel this apt, it might be the same again.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I really feeling depressed, and stressed myself.
P.s. I have looked into being the appointee or family friend being the appointee but that would mean cancelling the current award and registering the appointee and then reapplying all over again, this will be too stressful and financially we couldn’t manage.

I'm afraid there is not much advice that we can offer. :(

As you have already moved the first appointment you mother must be available for this new appointment or she risk be classed as failing to attend and her file being returned to the DWP.

You say that they have not contacted her GP, would they be willing to write something without the Assessment Provider writing to them? If they would can this be done before the current appointment date? There is a GP Notes document in the PIP section that may offer some structure to what they might write.

Without input from the GP I'm afraid I don't see any way to avoid the assessment.
