How often do you need to have an ESA assessment?

Bit of background, Three years ago, after having to go through tribunal, I was put in the support group. The judge said they weren't to test me again for two years. So last years about this time I received the whole form to fill out again, which I did. I was a wreck for months after it, waiting for my assessment. I heard nothing for a year and then today a letter arrives telling me to go for assessment next month. I'm all over the place. I thought mentally I was doing well, but right now I'm a wreck. Am I going to have to go through this every year?

Oh and just to add, Last year I was awarded enhanced rate PIP in mobility and Living for 10 years. So why am I being tested again? Yes I know they are different benefits but surely they must connect.

There are considerable delays in the ESA assessment process, so I think this appointment is actually a result of the ESA50 that you completed last year, I'm afraid claimants really are waiting a year to be assessed.

If your conditions and more importantly your limitations have changed since you completed the form then I would strongly recommend that you update Maximus with a letter, you should also send a copy to the DWP.

I'm afraid ESA and PIP really are too different for an assessment for one benefit to be used as a substitute for the other, although the assessment report from your PIP may be used as evidence for your ESA claim, but you will have to explain it's relevance to the ESA Descriptors.

There have been changes to the ESA guidance over the last year so make sure that you use the latest guides.
