Should I ask for PIP reconsideration?

My dilemma: to ask for a PIP reconsideration or not?

I’m being switched over from DLA to PIP and have been give enhanced rate mobility and standard rate care. I believe I should receive enhanced rate for both, but I’ve been advised that in the current climate what I’ve been given is a decent award, and that a reconsideration/appeal risks me ending up with less.

Has anyone here successfully appealed and received enhanced rate for both components? And has anyone ended up worse off after reconsideration/appeal?

I want to know my likelihood of success in pursuing this, or whether I'd be better off walking away with what I've got.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

It doesn't happen very often but we do regularly have members report that their award has been reduced or even removed when they asked for an MR,

You need to ask yourself two questions, how secure is my current award and how likely am I to score the extra points you need for a higher award.

If you only scored 8 points for Daily Living then it is more at risk than if you scored 11 points. You also need to consider your Mobility award.

Secondly, can you reasonably see where you could score the extra points for the higher award? If you can't then you may be taking an unnecessary risk by requesting an MR.

Thank you for your help Gordon. I’ve only got 8 points for daily living, but I should have received 8 for meal preparation, whereas they’ve only given me 2. So that would easily take me to the required 12. It’s tricky. A benefits advisor I spoke to said she felt I’d be taking a big risk in asking for MR. She said I’d done well to get enhanced mobility, as many struggle to get that these days.

There is a huge gap between needing an aid to help you prepare and cook a meal and being unable to prepare and cook food at all, it would require a fundamental misunderstanding of your problems!
