'Needs assistance to ...' on PIP indicators

I am due to transfer from DLA to PIP soon, and am rather concerned that, whenever I have read anything about people needing assistance, there is usually some statement that the assessor/decision maker 'may' say that whatever you need assistance with could be dealt with by some tool or adaptation.

The problem I see is that just about any problem could be dealt with by using some tool or adaptation of sufficient sophistication.

I have two things I need help with, both relating to my inability to get my hands behind my back:

Firstly I cannot wash my back or lower part of my hair (I can manage the top of my head). I tried a flannel strap for the back but found it of little help because it took ages to get into place and I couldn't get sufficient pressure higher up.

Secondly, it takes me a very long time and a great deal of pain, to get shirts and coats on to the extent that I rarely go out if no one is available to help.

What I'd like to know is if this will just be ignored or brushed aside (in the example decision document in members guides these sorts of things seem to be simply ignored). If they are not universally ignored, what do I need to say to make sure that the message gets across.

Or is this one of the things that they deliberately ignore, hoping that people will not go the MR/tribunal route?

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Whilst you should take account of the post you see on this forum, it's important to understand that whilst many of these are from claimants who are having problems with their claims they actually represent only a small proportion of claims. The reality is that most claims are processed trouble free.

As to you use of aids, you seem to have a good understanding of why you are unable to use these aids and I can see no reason why this would be ignored when you are assessed.

If you have not already done so, have a read of our PIP Claim guide that explains the criteria you will need to meet and also has more information about the use of aids.
