moving and claiming UC was created by Chrissiefeeny
Hi Gordon. Questions again.
We are moving to a full UC borough in June.
My son is on ESA(IR) Support Group and Housing Benefit. He just completed an ESA review last month and was given another 3 years ESA Support on paper based assessement only.
Does he have to go through a full re-assessment for his ESA when we move? Fill in a UC50 form and start from scratch?

If it is a different Local Authority then a new claim for Housing Benefit will be required and this will mean a claim for UC, as a result his ESA(IR) claim will also be transferred to UC, his existing award should be transferred without any requirement for reassessment and he should be placed in the No Work -Related Requirements group which is the equivalent of the ESA Support Group.

Thanks Gordon....
That's a relief!....
I believe he has to claim UC online only?....
I'm just not sure when he should start his claim...
Wait till after he moves and then wait for his UC claim to kick in...Normally at least 6 weeks I'm told..
Would you have any links to find these things out for him, as I know you mainly deal with ESA and PIP,......
Any help would be really appreciated...

I don't see how he can make a claim for UC until he moves as it is postcode dependant.

Have a look at the following for information on UC
