Nearly 6 years in ESA support group with no review

Hi again

I could do with some advice please. As the subject says when I migrated from IB to ESA in June 2012 it must have been a paper based decision as I did not attend any assessment, I was placed in the support group and have heard nothing since, thank goodness. Anyway when I got the result it was via a phone call from the decision maker I cannot remember getting a letter through the post about the decision and I am meticulous about keeping all paperwork relating to benefits. The decision maker clearly said my award was for two years. I was very naive about the new disability benefits back then so did not ask for a report or any information re the decision. When I transferred successfully to PIP last year I decided to phone the EAS helpline to ask when my next assessment was due and I was told not before September 2018. My questions are, can I still request the report all this time later ? it will I would think give me the advantage of knowing how I got into the support group. Also if it is paper based again would I even know my file had been looked at ? I assume I would not have been left this long without having some kind of review in the last nearly 6 years ? if it was reviewed I certainly wasn't aware it had. If I am am to be reviewed in September this year when should I expect to hear from them ?

thank you
Chazy

( if this is a duplicate could you delete one please as my first post I got an error message )

The report may still be available but is unlikely to be in local storage so you need to make a Subject Access Request for it.

SAR :

www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/request-for-personal-information.rtf

From this page :

www.dwp.gov.uk/privacy-policy/data-protection/

All Decisions are required to be notified in writing to the claimant, so you should have received a letter when transferred and you should receive one if your are reassessed in August.

Thank you Gordon for the help and links. Gordon do you think I will have had a Re assessment at some point during the 6 years without me knowing ?

Thank you

It's possible but it is also possible that it was deferred. Assuming an initial three year award then this would have brought you into the time when the DWP were doing this. Most awards were deferred for two years, but we are still getting reports of this being done for some claimants.

The DWP can reassess without contacting the claimant but is rare and is very dependant on their conditions.

Hi again Gordon

Thought I would keep this question here as it still relates to the same subject.

It is now nearly 7 years since I was switched to ESA contribution based support group with no face to face assessment. I did as above, ring up to be told I would not be re assessed before September 2018, I was not re assessed in September and have heard nothing at all. I know I really should not be wondering about this as so many people have such awful journeys to get the awards they deserve but I was wondering Gordon if my PIP result in 2017 ( enhanced for both for 10 years ) may be the reason why I was not called in September last year ? maybe they did a paper based or is it more likely to be down to backlogs ? One other question, would they do a paper based review and make a decision without a form being issued for me to fill in ?

Thank you Gordon

The DWP do review a very small number of claimants just on the information they already have or on this and any information that a medical contact can provide.

I'm afraid there is no way to know what happened last September without contacting the DWP, it is possible that you were reviewed without your participation or they could have deferred your reassessment.
