It's standard for them to cancel the current appointment if you push for a home assessment, if your GP is going to phone them tomorrow then it shouldn't be a problem and hopefully you will now get a home assessment.

Well done for involving your MP, most are pretty good at responding and providing positive help.

I'm afraid it's a waiting game until you hear back from your GP, try not to dwell on the situation, your CPN is right about not think the worst, I know it's easier said than done, try and find something to take your mind off of what is going on, maybe a favourite film or TV series.

Today I received two letters. The first was from the DWP/assessment service, I can't remember which, saying they're pleased to offer me a home consultation and they will be in touch when an appointment becomes available. It was dated the 25th so I'm muddled up with dates but I think that's before my GP phoned them and they wouldn't have heard from my MP then either.

The second letter was a copy of the letter my MP has sent to the DWP. He has apparently sent them a copy of the letter I wrote to him and his letter requests that I be assessed by paper only or if that's not possible then he said that a home consultation is needed. He also states that I will need a female assessor.

So I await a date. I have no idea how long the wait for a home consultation is, I'm sure it varies widely. Once I get the date I will be back in a panic asking what I need to do or whatever.

I've now received a date for my face to face home consultation. I'm extremely anxious and emotional about it. I will make sure I have my previous copy of my first PIP application after which I was awarded enhanced care. I will also have a copy of my current PIP application form and the letters that my GP and my CPN provided as evidence of my needs and problems and a list of all medication taken, dressings used etc.

What else do I need? Any advice about the appointment?

My spine was damaged and causing me pain at my first PIP assessment but at that stage wasn't restricting my ability to walk a certain distance however when the nurse asked me to bend forward in my chair to touch my ankles I said that I was okay doing as she asked as i was physically able but that it would cause me pain that could last a couple of days. The nurse said oh don't do it then. When my report came back the only thing the nurse had written within the ability to touch ankles while sitting in a chair was "Maysie declined to do this" which I don't feel was accurate. I'd actually said that I would do it and it was the nurse who said don't do it when she heard the pain it would cause me so I felt that was a misrepresentation and importantly she hadn't mentioned anything about my pain. I'm worried things like that will happen all over again. Is there anything I can do at the consultation to make sure what they write is accurate ad fair?

Thanks. Oh and I will probably need a large dose of diazepam if I'm to let a stranger in and to have any hope of answering questions, that will be okay won't it?

The only other thing I would suggest is recording the assessment but you will need to provide the equipment to do this.

I'm housebound due to pain and my only visitor is my CPN and occasionally my GP so I'm not sure how I could obtain equipment that could provide two copies of a recording and I literally have no money to buy equipment.

Is there any specific advice about the actual home assessment?

Sometimes my head goes fuzzy and I forget what I was even talking about let alone what I was about to say. I'm not sure if it's medication related but it's built up in the last few months and it's got to the stage of being embarrassing.

There are sections in the PIP Claim guide that cover the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.
