Hi there

Due to severe fibro fog along with a list of life long conditions I just couldn't complete the esa50 and had to go to citizens advice for face to face help.

Upshot is, the advisor could see I was struggling and told me she would read my notes on various conditions and complete form and send it.

I've just got a copy of what she has put on the esa50 and I'm now wondering who has worse fibro fog. I am in complete panic as the form has been sent and I've only just managed to get a copy from them. I have been assessed 2 years ago and awarded enhanced pip on both components until 2026, on existing lifelong conditions but fibromyalgia was diagnosed last month.

I realise ESA is a different benefit, but she has ticked the 50 metre box which she was already aware I cannot mobilise further than 10 metres, which she has stated in the box below but the 50 metre box tick is really worrying me.

Also, she has ticked yes that I can manage stairs and I told her I always need physical assistance with stairs and even have external viewing mirrors so I can see the front door and talk thru window if I'm in alone.

There are other errors and explanations which are wrong.

I'm beside myself with worry regarding ESA and how her form filling may affect my pip.

Please can anyone offer any advice?

Many thanks

I would be very surprised if this would impact on your PIP, we haven't seen an adverse PIP Decision result in a reassessment of an ESA claim.

As to your ESA, all I can suggest is that you write a letter correcting the issues that you perceive with what the CAB have written, send a copy to Maximus and the DWP office dealing with your ESA claim and take a copy to any assessment that you might have and ask the assessor to read it before they start the interview and to include it in your file before it is returned to the DWP.

Our ESA Claim guides explain the criteria you need to meet for each of the ESA activities.

Hi Gordon

Many thanks for your reply.

I have always used your site but I have been really unwell and was left with 3 days to get the esa50 form out and had to rely on local benefits office.

I am really disappointed and I wasn't happy having to leave it with them to complete and send without me checking it first and I'm sure the DWP must think it a bit strange that I am having to correct a benefits advisor.

Why she ticked 50 metres on the ESA form is beyond me when she then put maximum 10 mtrs in the information box and I went through how each condition substantially affects me with information from mum and partner too with each question but it is full of errors.

Do you think DWP will actually take notice of corrections and send me confirmation if of receipt?

I have DWP address but not the Maximus address for Scotland office, would that have been sent with ESA form as can't find any address for them?

I am so worried she has drawn DWPs attention to my pip which is less than 20 mtrs by ticking the 50 mtrs on ESA form when I clearly told her that no distance on ESA would apply as they are too far and I'm pretty sure I put my issue with requiring assistance for stairs with my additional info when I applied for pip which she has incorrectly put on ESA form that I can use stairs but "slowly".

I used your site 2 years ago when applying for pip advising how my lifelong conditions substantially affect me and after Atos and DWP assessment, was awarded enhanced for mobility and daily living until 2026. I just was not well enough to do it even following guides and it is a real mess.

Sorry to hear of your probs using your CAB. I was unable to sign what my CAB had put
on my forms and because of which stumbled across Benefits and Work. Four weeks to
prepare evidence and forms is never enough time, especially when you only have your own
body and mind to rely on.

Copies of your own medical notes, copies of your previous forms and reusing what you
can in accordance with current descriptors are things that I've found of huge value.

Am also acutely aware that when that blasted envelope arrives on your doormat, your
mind then goes into overdrive and that this forum will also help to keep you focussed.

Heartfelt thoughts are with you.

I don't think that the CAB ticking 50m will be a huge issue in regard your PIP, it does not mean that you can mobilise 50m but rather that you cannot mobilise more than 50m.

Of more concern would be if they have not made it clear that you could also not mobilise more than 50m by self-propelling a wheelchair.

I would not expect the DWP to acknowledge receipt of any additional information that you send but you should be able to check that it has arrived by contacting both Maximus and the DWP hotlines
.
You should be able to get the address of the relevant assessment centre by contacting Maximus

I used the CAB for one of my first benefits applications. Not sure what happened, but it was sent in half-finished. I had to go to appeal. I've never gone back.
