F2f for my 24 yo son dla tip pip was created by Flora
I tried looking for my first post to do a continuation but couldn’t find it. I am my sons appointee, he has asd, ocd and various problems related to these.

Sent his form off for dla to pip with lots of evidence from the psychiatrist consultant (11 letters each relating to assessments due to autism related mental health crises and ocd) all from the past couple of years, I also included the disabilit support assessment report from university (he attends uni supported but a personal support assistant and specialist autism mentor) ... it’s taken him 5 years to complete a 3 year course due to his disability..... it’s highly unlikely he will ever be able to get a job as he is severely impaired socially and can’t tolerate any sort of change.

Just received a letter to attend a f2f next Wednesday. I was disappointed he wasn’t offered a home assessment or paper assessment

Does anyone have any advice about the f2f? When under stress in strange situations my son sometimes becomes mute. I’m so worried that an assessor would see this as him not complying. The assessment is with ias and I believe these are mainly physiotherapists and unlikely to have any understanding of asd.

I’m worried and scared, and guess I’m looking for reassurance, or others experience of pip assessments for autistic spectrum disorders and ocd and other mental health problems

Thanks in advance

You should be able to find your last post by clicking on your forum name as it appears of the forum pages. for example; next to your post above.

If you want a home assessment then you will need his GP to write to the Assessment Provider explain, unambiguously, why he cannot attend at their offices. Paper Based Reviews are quite rare, assessors need to be satisfied that there is sufficient information for them to make a recommendation and that the claimants conditions are not variable.

There is a section in the PIP Claim guide that covers the assessment and the questions he is likely to be asked. As his appointee you should be able to speak on his behalf at any assessment.

I was just thinking about the assessment.... trying to work out why I feel so anxious about putting my son through it ...when I don’t feel anxious at all about his appointments with the consultant psychiatrist.... It’s because I know the assessor has no interest in his well being....they are merely a gatekeeper. The psychiatrist can probe all he wants to because ha can decide on therapies, medication and help him manage his disabilities. I don’t even know the name of the assessor or what their professional background is, they don’t even offer that courtesy.

My son had his assessment on 2nd may. I rang a week later to request a copy of the report ... I was told they hadn’t received it yet but a note would be put on the system to send a copy when they received it from Atos. I rang again today as no report yet ... I was told they only received the report from Atos yesterday and can’t send a copy until the decision is made. I wonder why it took Atos 3 weeks to send the report, and then why we have been refused the report until a decision is made.

The report could have been selected for audit.

There's no reason why the report cannot be released to you now but if you are in Northern Ireland for some reason they won't but this doesn't apply to the UK mainland.
