DLA to PIP was created by Hollyharvey
I have just received my letter informing me that my DLA is ending and inviting me to make a claim for PIP. I have been reading through the PIP information and I have a query:

Is a GP Factual Report always requested?

Thank you

It's actually requested rarely and even where it is you cannot rely on the GP to provide a supportive response, our recommendation is to source any evidence you want to be reviewed yourself.

Hello everyone,
I wonder if I can have some advice please. I am JBM's brother, she isn't well enough to post herself right now.

I completed her PIP2 form with her last week and sent it special delivery yesterday and she was sent a text by the DWP today saying that they have received it and she may need a face to face assessment.

Today she saw her psychiatrist and CPN. She has an official diagnosis of Major Depressive illness (treatment resistant) with anxious distress and anorexia. the psychiatrist today has said that she is now psychotic as well. She is hearing voices and seeing things. I know it isn't the diagnosis that matters because PIP is a functional test, but I am worried about her attending a face to face. I was worried before this even happened but this just adds to it.

On Friday there is a meeting with all of the professionals involved with her care and quite a few others to try and get together and think of ways to help her because she has been ill for over 20 years now.

Next week there is a Care Plan Meeting that she is attending, and I will be going with her. When the plan is agreed I will ask if she will get a copy of the Care Plan, but it usually takes them a couple of months to produce one and by then she may have already been called to a F2F.

Do you think that they would put the assessment on hold while we wait for this Care Plan because there is no way that she could go through a F2F at the moment, she just isn't making much sense, if I phone the PIP helpline and explain what is going on. They will know that she is pretty unwell because I included the medical recommendations from the doctors who assessed her under the Mental Health Act in March because they do back up some of the descriptors for a PIP award.

Thank you Gary

JBM

I think it is unlikely that they will hold off for her care plan to be produced, there systems require an appointment to be booked if one is available.

You can cancel the first appointment but she will need to attend the second one unless a Paper Based Review is agreed to.

Will you be attending this meeting on Friday? My best advice is for one of her support team to contact the Assessment Provider to explain her current circumstances, whilst her diagnosis may play a secondary role in her being assessed it should be a major factor in deciding whether a face to face is required.

Thank you Gordon.

Unfortunately I'm not invited to the professionals meeting on Friday. TJBM has never been invited to one either. When I phoned them up and told them that the GP had let it slip that there was to be one and could I attend I was told it is only for "professionals". There have been four held about her over the past 18 months which in itself is unusual.

She has a good relationship with the GP and he is going to the meeting on Friday so I will ask him if he can help by phoning and writing explaining her current mental state.

Hello everyone,
It's JBM's brother again.

Last Saturday a letter from ATOS arrived asking her to go for an assessment at the end of July. Unfortunately she had a total melt down over this. As a result I phoned ATOS and asked what I could do because she just can't cope with this process and I am wondering if the best thing is to withdraw her claim.

Initially the call handler offered a home assessment, but I explained that although that would help I still wasn't sure of the impact on her right now. The call handler was really helpful and asked me to hold and that it would be for up to 20 or 30 minutes because she was going to have a word with a HCP. She eventually came back to me and said that the HCP had agreed that they would put her case forward to be considered for a paper based assessment.

Today, she has received two letters both saying exactly the same, that they "have asked for further information from people involved in your treatment or care".

1) As there are two letters does this usually mean that they have contacted two people? I wondered if it was just a computer error.

2) Do they contact the people that you put on the PIP2 form or do they write to other people involved in your care who's name is on supporting information that you included with the application form.

Thank you.
