Hi everyone,
On 19th July my sister received a text from DWP saying 'We've received the written report of your PIP assessment. We will write to you once we've made a decision on your PIP. As a guide you should hear from us within 4 weeks. You don't need to contact us unless any of the details you gave us has changed'. This was the PBR.

Then today, she received a letter dated 2nd August (so 2 weeks after the text) saying 'we now have the information we need to decide if we can award you PIP. There's no need to contact us. We will write to you when we've made a decision on your PIP claim'.

I'm a bit confused over what has happened here.

Does anyone know if:

1. Does this mean that after they received the PBR and sent the text on the 19th July the Case Manager then requested further information, either from the assessment provider or someone else involved with her care?

2. Is this just a matter of it taking the DWP a long while to get the letter out, and the date of 2nd August is purely when it was printed?

3. Either way, when do you think we should take the waiting time from?

Thank you
(JBM's brother)

I would not read too much into this second letter, it's possible that they are acknowledging a delay in making a Decision but it is also perfectly possible that it was sent in error.

1. Not specifically, the only way you will know for certain is to contact the DWP office dealing with the claim and ask.

2. The date of the letter should be the date that it was requested to be printed, so I don't think that it is connected to the text on 19 July.

3. I would take it from the 19th.

Hi everyone
I managed to get over to JBM in time for the PIP helpline to open at 8.00am this morning and was lucky and got through to a really helpful lady.

She didn't know why the letter had been sent but had a look on the system and said that it looked like a decision had been made yesterday but that the letter would only be uploaded overnight tonight to be printed.

She could read it though, and said that the award was enhanced for care and mobility until July 202 with a review in July 2021. We are very pleased with this, and I am just relieved that it is over. JBM doesn't really seem to understand all this at the moment though, so I am really grateful for your help, I couldn't have managed it without the advice you have given Gordon.

We still have to wait the 10 to 14 days to get the letter though, but I feel confident that it will be what she said. I will let you know when the letter arrives and it is confirmed.

A tentative congratulations although it would be extremely unusual for them to read out the wrong Decision.

Hi Gordon

The award letter arrived today and it is exactly as I was told on the phone. JBM has been awarded enhanced daily diving and mobility until July 2022 with a review in July 2021.

This was after I noticed that her ESA hadn't gone into her bank account today as it should have. A quick phone call to them, and it was because of the change from DLA to PIP because they were checking her award, but a fast payment was made her ESA was in her account a couple of hours later, so all is good.

Once again thank you for all your help Gordon.
