PIP length of Award was created by eyesnlegs
Hi Everyone,

I’ve just been through the PIP face to face process and I called to ask for a copy of the report. The HA has recommended Standard Care and Enhanced mobility. Assuming that the DWP decision maker agrees then I’m very happy with that as it’s the same as my indefinite DLA. Thanks to all the information on here.

So my question is in regard to her suggestion for length of Award which is 2 years! I have MS, Arthritis in knees, spine and hips and CPTSD. All verified by reports from health professionals and consultants. At the time of the assessment I’d had a nasty fall a couple of weeks before and damaged my shoulder. Which I explained and also added that would hopefully get better. I’ve also had a knee replacement and will need the other knee soon.
Could this be why the award is such a short length of time?
I’m 63 my MS will never improve or anything else I have, is it worth asking for MR to review the length. As the short award means I can’t have a car!
Thanks guys.

I have only seen a few claimants, perhaps a handfull, request an MR soley in regard the length of the award, only one has been successful.

I think it quite likely that the possibility of your having further surgery to improve your walking has resulted in the short award.

The length of an award should be a refection of how likely the claimants conditions will change, this could be a worsening as well as an improvement.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks so much for your reply, I thought that may be the case. I’m still very pleased with the result and it’s mainly thanks to this site. Although, it was a nightmare process and the report contains lots untruths. Even stating she was here for 1 hour when in fact she was here for virtually 2 hours and I was exhausted as was my partner who was with me. I won’t list the rest of them you’ve seen it all before.

Thanks again for the amazing work here.

I don't know if Motability have changed their rules due to PIP claims being reassessed a year early but they used to allow leases if the claimants had more than 12 months left on their award.

Hi
Just thought I'd offer my advice i to went through the dreaded DLA to PIP process having had a life award for DlLA I received my award for PIP from March 18 to July 2020 with a recommended review in 2 years feeling utterly frustrated and drained at the whole thought of appealing the award length I took Gordon's advice on here and accepting the decision.
I spoke to DWP re short length of award and they basically waffled on that it's not based on you improving .
like you I won't improve they advised me it was to make sure that they are giving the right award ect .
I'm feel quite honestly lucky that I even got PIP awarded as so many people who had DLA life awards have lost out the whole process is unnecessarily stressful !!!
I was told by DWP that my review form will be sent to me in July 2019 yes that's a year before the end date !!! So I'm forgetting about it until then.
There really is massive differences in the length of awards being given even if you have a life debilitating illness.
So enjoy the award you clearly deserve and hopefully on yours and my next review we may get longer
I expect by the time we are reviewed they will have changed all the criteria again
Good luck

Thanks Roxy Raver,
It’s great to hear from someone who’s been there too. I think I’m frustrated as like you I had a lifetime award DLA and if I have my other knee replaced the MS still affects my walking! I think I’ve been quite lucky as she has put some quite shocking untruths in the report and yet still gave me the points. These start with her stating she was here for one hour 10 minutes when she was actually here 2 hours and I was absolutely shattered to go with the lack of sleep for days before worrying about it.

But like so many ladies my age I worked until I was 58 in spite of having MS from age 35, I finally had to give up work thinking I would get my pension at 60. But, you’ve guessed it, they moved my pension age to 66! Meaning I was left in the ESA and PIP age group after 41 years of paying my NI! You couldn’t make it up!

Thanks again I’ll take your advice.
