DLA "Care Component"

Hi Gordan,

My 91 year old father is now in residential care, part funded by the local council. He receives DLA, the DWP have told me that he keeps his mobility element, which is fine, but he will lose the care component. When I asked them if the care component will be used as a contribution to his personal care home, they said no, he will lose it because the council part fund his care, which means he has to find the lost allowance from his own income, which he cannot afford. He does not own his own home, has little savings in the bank, and can't afford this top up figure of £85.10 per week the DWP say he has to pay from his own means, which are zero. He gets a small work pension, and state pension which are used to part fund his care, no problem with that, he does not receive any pocket money from the council, I am sure he should have something for himself. It is horrible getting old, sorry but this is so upsetting fro me, he is my dad and worked hard all his life, to end up being treated like this.
