My parents are not having any success in buying me a home as they always get pipped to the post by someone else. The market for small properties moves v fast here at the moment. They realise there is no point in leaving me money to buy a home in their will because that will affect any means tested benefit in the future. A solicitor has suggested that the money goes into a “bare trust” and then the trustee (my sister) can buy the house for me in my name. He admitted though that he knew nothing about benefits and that this type of trust might still affect my benefits. Does anybody on here know anything about this? Thank you.

I'm afraid this is a legal issue and nobody on this forum is qualified to give you advice.

Try doing an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county, a trained advisor may be able to work with the solicitor to ensure that the trust meets the legal requirements not to have an impact on your benefits.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
