Thanks again, Gordon.

Yes I understand that they aren't medically trained making it very difficult in most csses.

However, in clear cut cases, where the previous assessment notes reasonably match those of present ones, surely having another opinion is both time consuming, costly and with the present backlog surely pointless.

I'm probably wrong but that was the impression I got from the guides.

Hi, I was asked if I wanted them to take my last DLA application into consideration for the transfer to PIPS. This would lead me to believe that the CM has the ability to make decisions on some cases without seeking advice from medical advisers. For instance, if a DLA claim was pretty recent (new or renewal), and that claim is already supported by medical evidence and meets the criteria for PIP and also that the medical evidence supports the fact that the condition causing the help required for care and mobility is likely to be long term or permanent then it may be possible for the CM to make a reasonable decision.

actually this is not a case where I would expect the DWP to make a Decision without referring the claimant on to the Assessment Provider, the criteria for PIP is very different from DLA.

My CPN is very much aware of the PIP assessment guide for providers. The review process for awards of 5yrs plus where the claimant notes no changes on the form is initially reviewed by a DWP case manager . If they cannot make a decision, there is a referral to Atos/Capita.
Hope this helps.
