PIP Change of circumstances was created by Nicky
Hi

I currently get enhanced DL element of PIP and have not been working for a few years. I want to go back to work but would like to know what happens with PIP. I imagine it will get stopped, but thats not what I need info on.

What is the procedure? Do i call and ask for a change of circumstances form? Will they ask me what's changed (and do I say I'm starting to feel I'm improving?) My condition does vary (I have Bipolar disorder) but I'm coping a little better at the moment. What happens next? Will I get payments whilst they process the change?

Sorry, loads of questions! Thanks in advance for any help!

PIP is not a work related benefit so there is no specific requirement for you to notify the DWP if you start work, however, it may disadvantage you if you do not contact the DWP about your starting a job.

If the reason you feel able to start work is due to an improvement in your conditions then you must tell the DWP about this, doing so will result in a reassessment of your PIP Claim and the new Decision will replace your existing one. Contact them in writing and if you can afford to do so, send it by a tracked post so that you have proof of delivery.

Your PIP award should remain in payment unless the DWP believe there has been a significant change in your conditions in which case they suspend payments but I think that this is unlikely.

Thank you Gordon. Do you have a link to guidelines on what counts as 'significant'? Would they do so if I return to work? How long does a re-assessment usually take these days?

In this situation "significant" would mean that you no longer qualify for an award. For example, if your working contradicts the reasons why you have been awarded PIP in the first place,

The total reassessment process is aboout 13-16 weeks.
