PIP Mobility Award Query was created by Mistymoo54
Hi,
I've just been awarded standard mobility due to mental health problems. I got 10 points ("you can't undertake any journey")
I repeated in my PIP2 form that I do try to go out every day as part of my CBT therapy so am not housebound but do suffer severe psychosocial distress and need someone with me.

When all cases are reassessed for the going out activity under the new guidelines, will they automatically discount mine because I scored under "e" in this activity?
Many thanks

Misty

This is difficult, your post actually suggests that you don qualify for the award you currently have.

Scoring higher is not about your suffering severe psychosocial distress and needing someone with you, it is about your being unable to follow a route and the reasons that you aren't able to do this, the distress may be the reason that you are unable to follow a route but it is the following of the route that is being considered.

It's impossible to say at the moment how the DWP will look at your current award when they do, they are still outstanding to provide new guidance for this activity.

Interested to hear your experience with PIP Misty, and fear of going out.

I was refused PIP even though I have agoraphobia, because I was not completely and utterly housebound (I can sometimes go out for short local trips).

I got them to do the mandatory reassessment and they came to same answer.

I discussed a tribunal with CAB, but after some investigation they said I would lose and they could not support me. There was it seems previous tribunal rulings and case law that meant I could not win.

Yes, I'm confused as to how they came to that decision as I made it very clear on the pip2 form that I couldn't undertake familiar journeys without distress but did keep repeating that I try to go out as often as possible as it is part of my therapy.

I thought to be awarded "e" you would need to be housebound for at least the majority, if not all, of the days of the year and I did make it very clear that this is not the case for me.

I'm wondering whether to just leave things be as they are or whether I should ask for mandatory. This might help with the correct decision when the new guidelines come in later down the line but I run the risk of losing the mobility component altogether:dry:
