And so it Begins, was created by tblin
Hi Everyone, Been a member of B+ W for a number of years but this is my first post so any advice will be greatly appreciated, last month got my (invitation) to apply for pip after being on DLA high rate mobility , middle rate care for 10 plus years award was indef. my list of medical problems are very long both physical and mental. i followed advice on filling in the form from the site and feel more confident of an eventual agreeable outcome, i am no stranger to filling in stuff , Appeals Tribunals, the dirty tricks and so forth, this new assessment is very confusing and frustrating and i sympathies with anyone new to the process , in my submission to DWP i stated that i can not travel to a face to face at one of the centers because of both physical and mental issues this was backed up with downloaded form from this site filled in by my doctor stating the same. also a list of missed appointments because of my medical condition, my docor has stated i can not walk any more than 20 mitres and thats it for the day, still i got the letter for an appointment to travel to. i phoned in to say i can not do this and needed a home visit, recorded this , said that they would look at this again because of the new evidence? there was nothing new about it, phoned me up a day later to say decision has not changed and the hcp still says no home visit, my carer phoned then to question this and was amazed at some of the excuses that were given, so they are about to send me another appointment . i intend to have another letter from my Doctor as they do not seem to have read the other evidence, i would be Grateful if there would be anything else i could do to strengthen my case and as i wont be travelling to the new appointment what next? with Thanks for the great information on the site and great work you do to even the balance in all this madness.

You need to be careful, claimants are only given two opportunities to attend as assessment before their file is returned to the DWP, whilst you may be able to successfully explain your problems with attending to the DWP but at the very least it will delay your claim and if they don't accept them, your PIP claim and consequently your DLA will be stopped.

Does your evidence categorically state that you cannot attend, if there is any suggestion that there are circumstances where you could then it will undermine your getting a home assessment.

You can try involving your MP

Thank you Gordon, at the end of my claim form i have stated that i hoped had given enough info as traveling would be out of the question because of my conditions and appointments being extremely difficult to keep . i dont know how i will be from day to day. i take morphine and this has effect as do two other meds i take .make you drowsy etc, i sent them photocopy of my meds stating this, i can't travel with others driving as car accident makes me unable to be driven ,taxis etc, i can occasion, drive myself but meds prevent most times. i am in Wrag group but do not go to jobcentre they phone me, have done for years Gordon , so i let them know from the off that home visit would be needed. last exam for dla doctor came to my home, they are saying because i have car i can travel to asessmnt, my carer family member is also a care nurse and she told them today i can not travel , also anxiety depression i have probs unfamiliar place thank you for the advice i will contact mp also, they also said to her today if it was just mobility they could home visit but cos also mental issues they cant, not herd that one before i told them i was worried about missing two appointments they very unhelpful ,

If you do not have a specific letter from your GP or another medical contact, unambiguously stating that you cannot attend then this is likely to be why a home assessment has not been offered.

Thanks Gordon i will ask my doctor if he will do that for me , i have his full support so i am confident he will , although he does not state it absolutely in his report anyone who read it objectively would come to the conclusion that i can not travel there owing to all the factors submitted by him, i have just emailed my mp, you're advice is very welcome Thank you,
