Hi
I currently receive Cont Based ESA in the Support Group having been transferred from Incapacity Benefit many years ago. I haven't been able to work at all since 2010. Since then I have received ESA 50's periodically which I have completed and returned, and have always continued to receive ESA without a medical.

This time I have completed the ESA 50 as usual in great detail and submitted loads of supporting medical evidence but have now been called in for a medical. The only thing different that has happened is my situation has deteriorated even further and I now have even more conditions.

I thought I would continue in the support group based on my very limited mobility as a result of a Flexion Deformity of my right Ankle and urinary incontinence (overactive bladder) both of which I believe I should score maximum points for.

I also have ME/CFS, suffer from blackouts, Type 2 Diabetes (poorly controlled), osteoarthritis, IBS, Anaemia, Vitamin D Deficiency, High Blood Pressure, High Cholestorol, Obesity, Oedema and have recently added to the endless list Hearing Impairment I now wear a hearing aid, and have poor vision due to a recent central retinal vein occlusion, which has caused macular oedema, I also have dry eyes, night blindness and mild cataracts. Coping with al these conditions at the same time is nightmare, and I struggle with every aspect of daily living.

Since 1984 I have received Mobility Allowance and DLA Higher Rate Mobility, I also get DLA lower rate care - although really should apply for a review of the care component.

Should I have queried why I have been called in for an ESA medical when they have so much evidence already?

It could just be that it is now Maximus doing the ESA assessments and no longer ATOS, we have seen a number of members report having to attend a face to face this time having previously had Paper Based Reviews.

You can try pushing for a home assessment but you will need your GP to write to Maximus in unambiguous terms about your inability to attend at their offices, assuming this is the case.

Thanks Gordon - the Appt is tomorrow, I only recently arrived back from holiday to find the lette. But because I had to go to hospital on Monday for an injection into my eye I have been struggling to see the details.
I did request a home visit but if that wasn't granted they do appear to have deal with most of my access requests. I have had to give up driving due to my sight problems so my husband will have to take me to the centre. I rang to check out the access and they have indicated that they had already logged my request for the appt to be recorded and confirmed they do have recording equipment at the centre which I was quite surprised at given the problems others have reported. Although there is no disabled parking at the centre which I requested they have said I may be able to use the staff parking if I struggle to get on road parking and to ring them from the car if I need to.
Fingers crossed - I'm dreading it.
