Mobility Q13 was created by Nickysbox@hotmail.com
I've received my PIP award after being on DLA for 7 years. I have lost my access to the mobility scheme because I was awarded 10 points for mobility. 0 for planning and following a journey because I drive a car which requires attention, awareness, cognition, perception and concentration. also the mental state examination??? showed no cognitive impairment that would impede my ability to plan a journey, read a map, or ask for directions.

I want to ask for a mandatory reconsideration because yes I can drive a familiar route in my car. I could not drive any car (mines adapted) and if I'm diverted/ breakdown I really don't cope. I've been stuck parked on the roadside before because I am in such a state.
I do not travel to unfamiliar places on my own for this reason.
I cannot cope with public transport solo for physical and anxiety reasons, I cant deal with crowds and Id probably get lost if I could walk (no sat nav :-)) If I ask for directions I forget them shortly after.

I was relatively calm for my assessment as the building is opposite the office I've worked in for 14years, my husband drove, it was the first appointment, we were there in plenty of time and everything went well. The assessor also wasn't as I expected and I felt at ease.

I guess what I am asking is, is it so simple that me holding a driving licence means I don't score. Is there any point in appealing?

I scored 10 for walking 20-50m because the walk from the waiting room to office was 23m.... my walking is so variable it can be a few meters at my worse to 100 (with consequences for days) on a good day. I have more in-between days than good

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Do you have a diagnosed cognitive issue?

You will only score for being unable to follow a route if you have a cognitive impairment such as a learning difficulty or brain injury, you have a sensory problem such as blindness or profound deafness of you have a mental health issue that causes you overwhelming psychological distress that results in your being too cognitively impaired to follow a route.

Driving a car would indicate reasonable cognitive ability, your post mentions anxiety but can it be described as "overwhelming psychological distress"? You would need to effect like this on the majoirty of days, can you show this?

As to your walking, you say you have more in-between days than any other, what is your walking like when you are like this? Do you do any actvities that argue against a shorter distance, for example do you go shopping? How do you manage GP and hospital appointments?

Ah ok. I had a stroke so yes a head injury but its only really anxiety which is not medically diagnosed I cannot demonstrate it on a majority of days because I manage everything to avoid putting myself in that situation. For example I would just stay at home rather than go solo.

Hmm thank you I think I need to reconsider my options.

The criteria is explained in detail in our PIP claim guide

There is also a copy of the DWP guidance for assessors in this section so you can see the DWP view of this.

I have known people who hold a full driving license and have no physical walking problems yet they are on mobility PIP.
