Transfer from DLA to PIP was created by Cardiff2011
I am helping a friend who has received letter re transfer from DLA to PIp. I will be visiting him tomorrow to make phone call on his behalf. I understand as well as info on gp/consultants etc they will complete PIP1 form over the phone. Is that correct? If so I think it will be virtually impossible as his 1st language is not English and he gets very confused. I will be speaking to DWP but I will struggle to get full answers from him. I think it is possible to request the PIP1 to be sent to him but the cut off date for return on the letter is 26th June 2018. Is it possible to get an extension as I am not sure I can get back to see him in time to get the form back by 26th - I live 60 miles away. By the way the Guidance notes here are very good - I have used them in the past to successfully claim top rates Mobility and Care for DLA for my friend. Many thanks and keep up the good work !

There is a list of the questions that will be asked on the call in the PIP Claim guide

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You can make the call for your friend although they will need to be available to confirm to the DWP that they can talk to you.

It is possible to request a paper copy of the PIP1 but historically members have had problems obtaining a copy so I would not advise going down this route if it can be avoided at all.

An extension to the initial 28 days to make a claim can be given by the DWP but I have not seen this happen in the five years since PIP was implemented. If a claim is not made within the 28 days then a second period of 28 days will be given but your friends DLA will be suspended during this time and only reinstated when the claim is made.

Thanks - I have printed off 1st 25 pages of guide from here and also the specimen PIP1 from DWP website. A few questions about PIP1 form:
1) Phone nos - my friend has problems understanding over the phone because of language and confusion. Is it OK to request only communication by letter?
2) Main Healthcare professional - he is under GP and Psychiatrist. He has severe physical and mental health problems - which put 1st - GP or Psych? Also has Social carer and Consultant Orthopedics.
3) 'About DLA' (he is currently on top rates Care and Mobility) - I think he should tick yes at top then tick yes to all other boxes (except school report) then tick 'use all medical eveidence from DLA claim'.He is on ESA with extra disability guarentee. Awarded May 2017. Any suggestions for 'Other Medical evidence at this stage or should he mention reports/letters he may include with PIP2 form?
and from Ben.&Work website:
4) Template Request Form for GP - is that appropriate for Psychiatrist as well? He has appointment Psych. on 26 June and I will attend.
Sorry rather a lot of questions but I want to try and get best result for my friend. Thanks your help!

1. Yes this is OK, follow it up with a letter confirming the request to the DWP office dealing with his claim, the address will be on the letter accompanying the PIP2.

2. The likelihood is that they will not be contacted, I would put them in the order that they will most likely provide effective support.

3. Yes, tick the ones he wants to use, however, the reports may not be available and even if they are, they may not be used in best way to support his claim. We recommend that claimants include the reports with their PIP2, that way they reports can be integrated into their answers on the form.

4. Yes it refers to the claimants ability to complete the PIP activities.

Many thanks Gordon! I feel much more confident to make phone call tomorrow. My friend's Psychiatrist speaks his language and I think will be very supportive with this transfer/claim so I think best to put her first. I see you are taking a very well earned break from here shortly - I wish you all the best and hope you can relax. Your advice is always very valuable!

Many thanks your help Gordon. Phone call went OK although accent of 'assessor' was a bit difficult to understand at times NE England). Accepted only contact by letter - deleted number I was phoning from. As I will be helping friend fill in PIP2 they took my name and phone number - not a problem for me. Will try and get reports from GP and Psychiatrist in time to send with PIP2 which should arrive within 2 weeks I was told. Paper copy of PIP1 is only available by writing request to address on PIP2 letter - I won't bother as kept copy that I used in phone call. I hope you have good break!
