PIP and Mandatory Reconsideration

PIP and Mandatory Reconsideration was created by Jenny
After waiting until I was 3 months past my 68th birthday, I got a letter from DWP inviting me to apply for PIP. It was the 'invite' bit that made me smile for a couple of minutes. "No, thanks I'll remain on DLA if you don't mind"
Anyway the package of forms arrived. I had all the helpful sections from B&W to guide me so I was darned sure I'd covered every question with the correct words and ways of answering them. It was due back immediately after the Easter BH which meant I'd only have just under 3 weeks to complete it and get it back to them on time. I rang and asked for another couple of weeks but the young man couldn't have been more pleasant and increased it to 4 weeks and to ring back if I needed more time. About 3 weeks later I had a young woman (from what used to be ATOS) to do a medical examination of my health. TBH I think she left her guide dog outside on that day.
About 2 months afterwards I had a letter from DWP giving me standard care/standard mobility and that I can request an MR if I wasn't happy with the outcome. After being on HR Care and High Rate Mobility DLA for life, then I wasn't happy with the outcome and prepared for an MR. Apparently the medical assessor saw me walking 50 metres before I was in pain and struggling etc. Having based this on a journey of 6 metres to the toilet and 6 metres back again, gasping for breath until I connected my home oxygen supply, I would suggest that medical assessors should be issued with tape measures! She'd clearly got no idea as to what the oxygen supply was for, if she'd seen it at all.
Today (2nd July) the results of my MR arrived and I was awarded Enhanced Care and Enhanced mobility until mid August 2022.
I clearly think the medical assessor was to blame for the failure of the original report. I picked out many things that were inaccurate from the accompanying letter showing where the points had been awarded on the MR - all of them relating to the medical assessment.
I could be pedantic and go through every one of them.....but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.....
Thanks to B&W for the great help I've had in filling out the PIP forms, it's well worth the money spent.

That's a terrific way to celebrate the re-opening of the forum, well done.
