Videoing of PIP Assessments was created by apples6
HI B&W
I have seen this week in Parliament tv that the Minister for Disabilities S Newton has said that in the summer (which as far as I know is here) that DWP will be testing videoing of the PIP Assessments -saying it will reduce stress and the like:
I do not believe that is the case and I think there is a lot of cause for concern and would increase stress levels greatly
For mental health conditions I would have though it will make matters worse and also for person with physical conditions and of course it will be just for the hour or so in time and not a true reflection of most of the time of the person being assessed.
How on earth would numbers of disabled persons be able to even access a copy of the video and how long would it take to get it to the person.

I would appreciate your thoughts

Thank you Apples6

Personally I think it is a good thing, audio recording can only cover what is said a common comment on the forum is that physical examinations are not actually done but reports say that they were.

That said, unless the use of recorded evidence at MRs and appeals is inproved it may be a waste of money.

It is all very well having video but the problem is how hideous it would be knowing every move is being recorded and analysed. If you go to an assessment centre, then that is happening from the moment you arrive anyway, within the waiting room, but it is not the same thing. They'd find a way to make it work in their favour, not ours. Nature of the beast.
I have a mostly unseen condition so video is unlikely to help me in gaining an award. The ignorance of some HCP's is not going to be negated by video. Yes, the assessors have lied about what the claimant can and cannot do, so for that reason, maybe some ppl would prefer it to try to prevent this happening. Many of us have experienced this. It is frustrating.
For me though, videoing the assessment sounds dreadful and crucially, I don't think it will help me get the right award. It's a big no from me. Audio, fine. :)

Personally I think its a good thing but I can see the other side as Buddha says there are a lot of hidden disabilities. I do feel that it should be an option as should audio. There is no reason why a client cannot be asked if they want the assessment recorded either in video or audio. If we had that option it would be solely down too you once you are invited. It would also stop all the lies and wrong summaries being written by Atos as well as making MR and appeals easier to be resolved either by the DM or the court. If Atos/Capita are serious and want to finally start throwing a sense of openness out there then its a win win on both sides.
