Strange ESA (income related) form was created by littlegreycells
I received a letter last week, telling me that they'd like to move me over from contribution-based ESA, to income related ESA. As I was looking through the form, I noticed that under the section where you tell them what benefits you're on, it says "Motability", amongst monetary benefits such as bereavement allowance, JSA, Severe Disablement Allowance etc. At first I wondered if it was a misprint, but then a couple of pages later I saw it mention Motability again, as though it's a monetary benefit. For those of you that don't know, Motability is a scheme which allows people receiving the highest rate of the mobility component of DLA or PIP to lease a car, wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV), mobility scooter or wheelchair in exchange for the money from their mobility component of DLA or PIP each month. It isn't a monetary benefit. So I phoned the number on the accompanying letter and asked why it was listed under benefits, and the woman didn't know, all she could suggest was that it was a typo, but I thought this was unlikely since it was twice and on two separate pages. I just wondered if anyone else has had this on their form, and what they put? I do have an adapted van through the Motability scheme, but I'm hesitant to tick the box that says "Motability" on this form as it makes it sound like it's extra money that I'm receiving when in fact it's almost the opposite. If anyone has any ideas, or comments about their own experiences with this, please do let me know!

This has always been on the ESA3, it's so they can understand where your money is going, if you have a Mobility award for DLA or PIP and the money is not showing on your bank statements then they won't have to chase you about it if you have also indicated that you are part of the Motability scheme.

Hi Gordon, thanks for your reply. I can understand that they would need to know where the money is going if it's not going directly into your bank, but it just seems weird that they've put it in amongst the monetary benefits, when it isn't a benefit. It's a very confusing way of writing it as it makes it sound like Motability is something that gives you money, whereas if they were to ask it in the "extra information" bit at the end, it would make a lot more sense. I have to fill out a form to claim a low income certificate each year to allow me free prescriptions and dentist etc, and that says to let them know about things like Motability in the extra space section at the back, which makes much more sense. Although hopefully I won't have to fill out any more of those if I am awarded income related ESA, as I'll be entitled to it for free anyway
