ATOS Pip Assessment, some questions...Help

More

Previously I had some questions about a PIP claim,
it has been found out that the questionnaire is with Independent assessment services

One thing, they wrote a letter asking that they would be writing to one of our health professionals to get more info.

This was to a health professional we saw 10 years ago, which we had included on the form (not the GP) and the PIP department did NOT manage to get the information that they required (as it was 10 years ago, perhaps that health professional moved on?)

(The PIP questionnaire + Answers was very detailed, with solid recent evidence)

1) Does the fact that they did not get the info that they required, mean that there is a high chance a face to face will be required?

To an atos assessment don't use public transport
When people advise, get driven in to the center, and ,
as a bus it looks like you can then manage public transport.

2) Is a taxi considered public transport?
How about a Taxi/cab, which can wait there in the building with you/for you.

Is a taxi considered public transport?

3) When they say, be careful on how you answer question that the Health professional answers,

if you just act a bit sluggish/slow/ not with it, and avoid answering many questions - due to a noted mental condition (which will give the nurse no exact answer to write down) then can this work against you?
can she write down her own nonsense, which will work against the applicant ?

In otherwords, if staying silent and blanking most questions, can that give her more reason to write her own lies up? compared to if you spoke your own tactful answers?

4) Questions they ask
Do they just ask the similar type of questions which is on the PIP how your health affects you questionnaire?
with some additional questions too?

or their answers are similar and they ask more questions?

5) Bringing in evidence
Can you bring in evidence in, (sheets, reports) which have already been send it, but just to refer to them throughout the face to face?

or does the fact that we will be referring to them show that we are mentally well enough to use such a method, and can work against us?

6) How long can this Atos PIP assessment take?

and when you get there in the waiting room, is there a long wait?

7) What is the deal on 'recording' the interview on your phone (record app) so you have it as evidence? you can if you ask her?

Please can you assist with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 for this anxious time

Thank you x

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

1. I'm afraid a face to face is going to be much more likely if IAS are unable to contact anybody currently involved in your treatment.

2. No a Taxi is not considered as Public Transport. If you are think of taking one to any face to face then speak to IAS as they may be willing to find it, although you will need a letter from your GP explaining why you cannot use Public Transport, they won't accept your own testimony on this.

3. Failing to participate in the assessment could lead to the interview being terminated. When we say to be careful about answering the questions, we mean understand what you are being asked and make sure that your answer explains any problems you have with the activity. As a general rule saying "no, I can only do this under these circumstances,,," is better than saying "yes, but only...."

But don't get fixated on this.

4. There is a list of the questions likely to be asked in our PIP Claim guide.

5. Yes if you want to but if your do refer to them then explain why you are doing so.

6. Most assessments are about an hour but they can be short or longer by typically half an hour.

7. You need permission in advance from the Assessment Provider to make the recording.

It needs to be made to two tapes of CDs simultaneously.

You cannot use a digital recorder such as a mobile phone.

A member has reported problems if the media is not new, so make sure that the tapes or CDs are still shrink wrapped and opened in the presence of the assessor.

You need to give one of the recordings to the assessor.

Most members have used two relatively cheap cassette recorders, check that they record without problem, some have used external microphones.

Thank you.

1) if we Don't do your suggestion in Question 2 (don't get a letter from the GP)

what could possibly go wrong against us?

ie, the assesssor could think of...xxy, and write xyz against us?

2) What is usually the 'waiting time' at the center before your turn comes?

3) If you are there in a wheelchair, in pain, can the skip the mobility test (if you say you are in too much pain to do it)
-which is confirmed by medical evidence,

4. There is a list of the questions likely to be asked in our PIP Claim guide.

which specific guide ? as there are many,

4) what is the name of the guide, thanks.

1. If you don't have a letter from your GP then it's unlikely that IAS will pay for it, they may assume that it is more an issue of convenience than necessity.

2. Variable, it will depend on the time of day and whether the assessor has other appointment, best guess is from zero at the beginning of the day to up to an hour in late afternoon but you should still make sure that you arrive early as requested.

3. You can refuse to perform any action that would cause you unreasonable mental or physical harm, just make sure you explain why.

4. Guide to PIP claims and reviews.

Thanks Gordon,

1) when you say a face to face is going to be 'more likely' , in other words there is still a chance for it to be paper based ,and them not need to be called in for a face to face?

2) and if so, this would be if they re-read the PIP Questionaire, and evidence (reports etc) and decide a Paper based application will suffice for this? hence decide No face to face right?

3) Is it easier for the IAS assessors to decide to do a Paper based questionaire application and Reject the idea of a face to face for an applicant? - as all the do read it, and decide there are enough points,

4) Is it cheaper for the IAS assessors to decide to do a Paper based questionaire application and Reject the idea of a face to face for an applicant? ie, they get Less money, or more money
for doing a series of Paper based assessments compared to face to face ones

eg if they decided to do 5 paper based assessments for 5 candidates VS 5 face to face assessments for them ?? - do the assessors get Less money, or more money

Thanks with 1) 2) 3) 4)

1. I would describe the possibility as being non zero, so the chances of you avoiding a face to face is very small.

2. The primary decision on whether to do a Paper Based Review is there being sufficient information in and with the form for an assessor to make a recommendation to the DWP.

3. That's not my impression, PBRs run at no more than 5% of claims.

4. As far as I am aware, assessors are paid a flat rate for assessments, whether they are face to face or PBRs. They are paid bonuses for doing extra assessments.

I think that any suggestion that the decision to do a PBR was based on personal income would be greeted by significant comment from the DWP and the public.
