Samantha I am sorry to hear this isn't isolated. the harm this could do in getting parents to let the schools put their children in for GCSE's, The benefit of them attempting a GCSE is so low that if it means the one crutch they have in life being their disability benefit could be lost through taking them then the parents wont let the schools enter them for them. I have sent further evidence to try and get this report discredited and opened a case with ATOS who did the assessment with my son. My MP has done the standard thing from the sounds of it by sending a letter from his office to the director general of operations for the DWP. Our report contradicts itself several times over how my son interact and wasn't withdrawn but then needed my encouragement to attempt to answer questions. the best bit I had was that my son was not looking tiered, well kempt, and dressed appropriately. It 's obvious that the DWP want us to neglect our children.

Yes i totally agree! We also had the well kempt, dressed and not under nourished ( at 200lbs and 6ft tall). I think it is pretty standard that a child of 16 living with a decent family should not be looking unkempt...however without my support he would most probably arrive in his pj's or wearing a sweater in hot weather.
I had a talk with a lady the other day and her son had a f2f, she sent in loads of evidence, her forms were perfect, but her son was refused due to him passing his theory test which he failed 4 times and it took him 18months. Of course that part was not mentioned.

I would love someone to challenge the dwp on the use of well kempt in a young adult/child in court. The 1989 children act defines a child as someone under 18. It is a parents responsibility to look after a child. Keeping them clean, well nourished, and safe is part of being a parent. With a child who has additional needs be them mental or physical this is difficult and time consuming resulting in many an argument and standoffs to get a result. For the purpose of the benefit surely it should be looking to identify the extra need compared to an average 16 year old which mentioned by someone else also has a degree of nagging involved but not using the end result as a reason to refuse . DLA to PIP really seems to be at a bad time with many leaving schools who have looked after them from a young age and the coinciding of this will damage many who don't actually yet know what difficulties adulthood will hold.
