ESA Reassessment Unusual? was created by Deb
Long time reader, 3 years subscriber, I have used the guides and found them excellent.
I confess to now remember how to get to the forums but have now found my way back in.

I am now a little concerned/worried.

Partner has been ill for many years, was awarded PiP until late 2020 (5 year award) He was also I think put in the Support Group for te work capability.

In Feb 2017 he was sent an ESA 50 which I completed and sent back in recorded delivery mid March 17 and which the DWP received.

September 2017 and he receives a letter from the DWP regarding ESA and where it states they have looked at the claim again following a recent change and mention the payment made and then state 'this is because a decision on your capability for work, You have been placed in the support group.' No information on the lenght of the support group award was given.

It then mentions tax year '2006/2007 to assess your claim' a decade previous?

But in any case, roll on to the very end of June 2018 (last month) and he received another ESA 50 to be completed by the end of this month?

Is this highly unusual? Is there something else going on we're not aware of? 9 months?

My partner suffers a variety of illnesses/disabilities both physical and mental, his medical prescription reads like a book, he isn't capable of work.

Any advice would be appreciated? I am of a mind to phone the dwp to ask how long the claim in Sept last year was made for but i'm not sure how to do that or who to phone.

Also, given the shortness (10 months between the two ESA's) I have a mind to simply update the new one re dates etc and copy the entire form word for word from last time, nothing has actually changed with his illness.

Thankyou

Deb

In September 2017 he received a letter from the DWP

Whilst ESA is an indefinite award it is expected to be reassessed on a regular basis, this period can be anytime from three months to three years.

If he has received a new ESA50 then I'm afraid it needs to be completed and returned as required.

If nothing has changed then you can copy the content from his last ESA50 but I would still check our ESA Claim guides to make sure that there have been no changes to the ESA guidance that would effect your answers. Also send any relevant evidence that you have, even if it has been sent before.
