PIP Mail handling unit scanned pages in randomly ?

When sending the application form in the post, to the PIP Wolverhampton mail handling unit, with a lot of paper evidence, reports, etc.
(all evidence was numbered nicely)

where once in the Mail handling unit in Wolverhapmpton, they open it, and scan it in,

after they received it, we called them to see if they received all the bulk evidence, and they said, they can go through the scanned pages to confirm that they have read it all.

when we did this, they read out the pages of the scanned document in the Order they were scanned,

and when they did this they read them out in a Random order, so instead of Evidence page 1, 2, 3, 4,

they read it like this page 5, 2, 8, 10 etc


so in other words they had got scanned in, in a random order.


1) after this stage, does it go to the DWP department?

2) and then after the DWP department have it, it gets sent to the IAS department?

3) Is this common? for the wolverhampton department to scan it in randomly?

4a) At what stage does the 'random' order of the evidence get sorted + put in the correct order?

4b) - which department does this, from Random to Correct order?

There should be no reason why the pages are in a random order under normal circumstances.

The process should be that the pages of the form are separated and then the form and any attached pages are put into the scanner, the pages are then scanned page by page, side by side.

What can go wrong is the package of pages being dropped and not put back in the right order or pages sticking together and being mis0scanned.

As far as I know the "package" is sent on as a single file, much like the guides are, I would not expect the file to be editable so it would not be possible to change the order of the pages.

They were read randomly, (but each medical evidence was numbered in order, so they can refer to them on the questions, where the medical evidence number was noted, for them to refer to (as reference)


Let's say the worse case scenario the pages are all jumbled,

which will lead to the IAS Health professional, when they go through the form,...
they will have to go through the whole documents, back and forth, in according to the numbers which they will have to find themselves... which will be more work for them right?

But they will still have no choice have to do that right?

or do you think there is a chance they wont be bothered to do all this hassle of going back and forward, and will just insist a Face to face assessment
(without looking through the evidence properly, as it is too much hassle to them, to go back and forward) ??

Assessors are only going to have read access to the online copy of the form and evidence, it's unclear whether a paper version is also supplied.

I would expect a good assessor to make the effort, a bad assessor; perhaps not.
