intermediary was created by maggi
My first query on this forum. I am preparing to act as an intermediary for his PIP application for my son who has Aspergers Syndrome. He has not yet been sent the forms, though has had the letter saying he will be sent them, but I want to get ahead as much as possible. So - simply, how do I apply to be his intermediary? Do I have to wait until he is actually sent the forms? I am already his intermediary for tax credits purposes.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

It depends on what you mean by an intermediary.

To act on your son's behalf then you need to be made an appointee for him by the DWP, see

www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits

If you just mean your completing the form on behalf of your son then you do not need any special permission to do this. If you use his words then he can sign the form, if they are yours then you both need to sign. In either case explain how the form was completed.

And one more detail - my son and I live 300 miles apart. As I will be filling in the form for him, would the DWP accept a photocopied version with my photocopied signature and his actual signature, as I could post a copy to him.? Otherwise one of us will have to make a long journey!

If you can possibly do so then I would avoid sending a copy, it needs to be scanned and any failure with this could cause problems.
