PIP. Should I reapply was created by D Devlin
I have got my Pip until 2022. But they only gave me standard rate care.
I couldn’t get my head straight when I had my F2F interview.
As I had emergency spinal surgery which was complicated but left me with total incontinence had to learn to walk again and several other problems and I’m in severe pain.
I walk with a stick, and a 3 wheeler. And I live in incontinence pads. I have 2 Carer’s a week coming in.
Several people have said I should appeal it.....which means a new claim.
Do you think I should appeal it or just be happy with what I’ve got?
I need new surgery on my spine but whether they will do it or not hasn’t been decided. I have 5 bulging discs and 3 slipped vertebrae.
I also have Crohn’s disease, vertigo, numb from the waist down.
I have to inject myself with an anti TNF drug every month for Ankylosis Spondylitis. And a few other things. I would love to get an idea of what I should do. So any advice would be appreciated.... thanks

The first thing you need to consider is whether you can reasonably score the extra points for a higher award? See our PIP Claim guide for the criteria that you will need to meet.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

If you do then you have two options;

- If it is less than the 13 months since you received your current award then you can appeal the Decision, you will need to show that you should score the extra points needed for a higher award based on your conditions at that time, they cannot consider any changes that have occurred since then.

The first stage of this process is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration.

See our MR and Appeal document for a template letter you can use.

- Alternatively, if it is only now that you believe that you meet the criteria for a higher award then you can report a Change of Circumstances, send a letter to the DWP office dealing with your claim explaining the Change and asking to be reassessed. If you can afford it, send the letter using a Tracked post so you have proof of delivery.

This will result in a new PIP2 being sent for you to complete and you should expect a face to face assessment, the new Decision, whatever it is, will supersede your existing award.
