If you postpone an assessment can the DWP send you a new appointment for just a few days later? Or would it be likely to be a week or more later? Also If you then cannot get to the assessment because you can't drive and can't take public transport and family members work then what would happen?

Is it better to cancel close to the health assessment for example the day or two days before or several days before?

They are required to give you seven days written notice of an assessment. If you need to move the appointment then the best thing is to call them a day or two before and arrange the new appointment while you are on the phone.

They can pay for a taxi but you will need medical evidence to say that there are no circumstances in which you can use Public Transport.

If you do re-book then you must attend the new appointment or you risk your claim being closed.

Thanks Gordon.

I am not well enough to attend an assessment and definitely couldn't take a taxi or go alone. I'm not going to be able to sit in the waiting room so will sit in the car. I don't see how it's going to happen.

I'm providing evidence of this from my medical team. If they still insist on an assessment or home assessment and I miss it, can I then appeal after they cancel my benefit?

If you are hoping for a Paper-Based Review then you will need the support of your GP at the least, the assessor will need to be satisfied that they have sufficient information to make a recommendation to the DWP.

If you do fail to attend then your claim will almost certainly be closed, you can appeal this Decision but you may still end up back in the same position as the decision to do a PBR lies wholly with the Assessment Provider.
