ESA, Housing Benefit and occupational pension

Hello,
I receive Contributory ESA, and was assessed for Enhanced Disability Premium in April and was awarded it in May backdated to Feb 2018. 3 months later, and I'm still waiting for a phone call, to do an application over the phone, and then they'll assess how much arrears I've to receive. I was migrated from Incapacity benefit onto contributory ESA support group in 2013.

My question is, I have an occupational pension, and applied to receive it earlier due to my ill health. I'm 53. It has been accepted, and I could take a lump sum of £4,700 and monthly payment of £60 now.

I receive full housing benefit and pay no council tax, (I have a joint lease with my son, who is on income support and careers allowance for looking after me, and he receives housing benefit)

I also receive disability living allowance lowest mobility and middle rate care.

If I take the pension now, I need a lump sum to help pay off my £9000.00 debt, how would the lump sum and £60 a month occupational pension affect my housing benefit and ESA contributory and income related?

I'd be grateful for your advice.

The lump sum and monthly payments should not affect your ESA(CB).

Providing the lump sum does not mean that your total savings and assets exceed £6000 then your ESA9IR) will not be affected. See

Asset and savings rule for ESA(IR)

I would expect the monthly pension payments will be deducted £ for £ from your ESA(IR).

The same rules apply to the lump sum and your HB, providing you remain eligible for ESA(IR) after the pension is deducted your HB should be unaffected.

You need to contact the DWP office dealing with your claim and your Local Authority.
