PIP medical for profoundly deaf claim

Hi all. I am due to attend a PIP assessment next Friday and my condition is as above, profoundly deaf on both sides. I have read elsewhere that the HP sometimes did a crude test by asking the claimant to stand to face a wall and the assessor would whisper/shout/say something. Now both Action on Hearing Loss and the British deaf association have an agreement with the DWP that this type of testing is totally unacceptable as it is not objective nor evidence-based.

Has anyone on here had experience of this, please? My plan is to refuse to take part in this if suggested for the reasons above but any ideas or suggestions welcome please.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I haven't heard of this test being done, maybe some members with hearing problems can comment.

My husband had this "hearing test" done during a DLA assessment about 2004. Although he couldn't hear anything she had said, he was declared as having perfect hearing. I was concerned and arranged a referral through the GP and he had to have hearing aids as he had substantial hearing loss. When he had his PIP assessment last year the assessor did not do any hearing tests but we did provide his latest audiology report as evidence.
I do feel that the internet and this site in particular together with Gordon have empowered disabled people with the knowledge we need to claim what we are entitled to.
