Advice needed for ESA Medical Assessment

Hi,

I am waiting on a medical assessment for my ESA claim review. I have not had a face to face assessment for ESA yet as I was moved from previous benefit on paperwork.
I would appreciate if you could help me with some questions about the assessment

Are the medicals carried out by the same people/company who do the assessments for PIP? My doctor requested home assessment, do you know the waiting time to be sent an appt for this?

If a medical report is requested from my doctor , will the dwp or the assessment people contact my doctor? (Is a report requested before a medical?)

Can you give me some advice on what goes in the report, and can you give me an idea of
the kind of things that I should update my doctor about when I have my next appt ?

In terms of the focus of an ESA assessment, is it more about my illness, my ability to do the tasks, or my ability to be in the workplace?

Do they assess by asking questions or is it a physical exam or trying to do the tasks?
(Is there any possibility of being assessed on the paperwork?)

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Kind regards.

ESA assessments are done by Maximus also know as CHDA and occasionally HAAS, they do not do any PIP assessments.

Wait times for assessments appear to be 5-8 weeks in large cities and anything up to 5-8 months in more rural ones.

If your GP is contacted then it will be with an ESA113, see

www.gov.uk/government/publications/esa11...thcare-practitioners

This will most likely be sent by the assessor, if at all but could be issued by the Decision Maker although they will likely have to refer the reply to Maximus for comment.

You need your GP to answer the questions with meaningful replies, most do not, ideally with information about your ability to complete the ESA activities.

I would expect you to be asked questions across all three areas but the only ones that really matter are in regard your being able to complete the ESA activities.

It is primarily an interview but there is usually a very basic physical examination, usually involving the range of movement in your limbs and the grip in your hands. You can refuse any request that would cause you unreasonable physical or mental harm if you do then explain why.

It is possible to be assessed on the information in and with your ESA50 but it rare for this to be done and will require at the very least up to date medical evidence of your problems.

The ESA Claim guides have sections on the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.
