ESA50 form was created by Maggie
Dear Gordon,
The nice lady from Age UK came today to help me fill in my ESA review. I'm afraid I was in a terrible state & had to take diazepam to calm down. Afterwards I was so exhausted I went to bed all afternoon. I've only just checked the form-was planning to copy it to send it off urgently.
The lady was in a rush due to workload; but I can barely read the scribbled handwriting( not in capitals as asked) and some medical words are completely illegible.
I feel so let down & stupid not to have checked it before she left. I'd waited a month for the appointment.
Should I attempt to correct it (there are already errors & crossing out) or
should I download a new form & sit up all night typing it up & just photocopy the declaration/help page?
Or will that make things even worse for me:we're trying to give enough information to get a paper based review. If they can't easily read it they won't bother & insist on F2F despite GP letter. I will be attaching some typed sheets I did with my counsellor.
Am I just over-thinking it?
So glad you are back to help us Gordon but please take your holidays & look after yourself too.
Many thanks

I am assuming that you still have time to take some action before you need to return the ESA50, as there are no extensions available for your doing this.

What do you actually think you are capable of doing in the time available?

A legible ESA50 will always be better than one that cannot be understood.

Thanks Gordon,
The form was due today! However I was told waiting for benefits advice & help to fill the form in was a reasonable cause for lateness. As no one will be around until Tuesday I have nothing to gain by sending in something illegible. I'd hoped to post it today.

You must post the form on Tuesday and I would use Next Day delivery if you can afford it, at the very least send the form using a Tracked post as it may be very important that you have proof of delivery.

I think there is a good possibility that your file will be returned to the DWP for failing to return the form on time but providing the form is received next week they should be able to continue with the assessment although it will be delayed.

Hello Gordon,
I managed to get the ESA review form off next day & tracked on Tues 28th, signed for at Wolverhampton post handling 4.39am Weds. Getting it off was unmitigated hell: I've been so very ill since. More unnecessary cost to the NHS.
However it looks like they have accepted I had reasonable cause for sending the form 2 days late because I had to wait for benefits advice & help to fill the form in : at least they haven't stopped the payments. Now the long wait to hear about assessment, nagging fear that wears you down.
I can't recommend delaying the ESA form but there is some hope if its due to waiting for an appointment for help & advice. Do check that the advisor is writing in capitals/type at the time.

Dear Gordon,
Brown envelope today only 6 weeks after form returned. Crying & shaking with shock & relief : I've managed to stay in the support group! :) PB review.
I think the GP & counsellor letters were essential.
I wouldn't have been able to keep going without the guides, Forum & especially your help Gordon. You're a star!
I am so drained I don't know how I'll get my health back to something a bit more stable: week in bed to start.

Is it possible to write in to request the report or do I need someone to phone up for me? Is it an ESA85a for PBR please.
Many many thanks.
