my wife just had her letter and only got 11 points for care the main area I feel is wrong is she has severe epilepsy with 5- 10 fits per day incontinent for most of them but as she uses incontinent pads they say she should only get 2 points can you advise what is the requirement to get 4 points for one type of incontinence as I have to strip and wash her each time and change bedding as reqd. I will be asking for mandatory review and need help how to word this for the letter.

From our PIP Claim guide

Managing Toilet Needs

a. Can manage toilet needs or incontinence unaided. 0 points.
b. Needs to use an aid or appliance to be able to manage toilet needs or incontinence. 2 points.
c. Needs supervision or prompting to be able to manage toilet needs. 2 points.
d. Needs assistance to be able to manage toilet needs. 4 points.
e. Needs assistance to be able to manage incontinence of either bladder or bowel. 6 points.
f. Needs assistance to be able to manage incontinence of both bladder and bowel. 8 points.

I can't see any Case Law that would help with your situation

If your wife has 5-10 fits a day and many of these result in incontinence does she have any toileting needs at other times of the day?

I am wondering if you can argue that all of her toileting needs are related to her seizures and that the effects of them mean that she then needs assistance to manage incontinence of her bladder and/or bowel, allowing her to score higher.

From experience,

At assessment, the healthcare professional will want to see the Pads as a regular prescription from the Doctor ;-)

My own assessment was knocked back on this point because i chose to purchase rather than have documented evidence in the form of a prescription.

Just my 2 cents and i am no professional.
