what happens if someone is suicidal at the time of assessment or indeed attempts to harm themselves before the assessment I am feeling very unwell mentally at the moment my mental health has plummeted

Have you contacted your crisis team or your GP?
Don't sit on this situation it is really important that you get help if you are feeling this way.

yes I have the whole pip assessment is really making me ill what happens if the day before an assessment you harm yourself of overdose I have emotional unstable personality disorder and at the moment I am not coping

Pip or ESA assessment alone is not the final closed door to any claim and you have avenues to further your pursuance of a claim after this if it doesn't go as you expected.
Those other avenues are there to give you an opportunity to expand on the Health Professionals' perception of your issues so please take a deep breath and also know you are among friends on this forum who have gone through similar emotions and dark places leading up to an assessment.
The support you have here is second to none hence when you do finally win your case albeit sometimes jumping through many hoops I hope some time in the near future you will look back on this and become a stronger person.
Gordon and everyone else is here for you so please heed his advice

It will depend on the circumstances.
If you fail to attend and do not notify the Assessment Provider in advance then your file will be returned to the DWP, they will write to you for your reasons for not attending.
If this is your second appointment and you do not attend then your file will also be returned.
If this is your first appointment and you notify the AP that you cannot attend then a new appointment will be issued. In this case only the reason that you cannot attend may influence the need for a face to face, in the other two; it may be possible to continue with your claim but I would be concerned that the additional level of stress that it will cause you may be beyond what you can manage.

just to let you know the HP has after getting further information regarding my mental health from a mental health charity that has supported me have now decided to do a paper based assessment some of the stress has been taken off for the time being thanks for your support so far
