Also I was under the impression, that social support was assistance from friends/family members or does it only count as ‘social support’ if the person helping you to do tasks is a trained professional to help with your particular health issue/disability?

I would also appreciate your feedback on the mobility issue.
For mobility this what it says,
You can’t undertake any journey because it’s would cause you significant mental distress. 10 points

If I do have to attend health appointments etc I always need someone to come with me... I’m not sure how that applies and I apologise if I’m not making sense. I know what I want to say but find it hard to get across.

Are most awards for people with long term mental health issues around 3 years? Would you be able to comment at on award time frames if possible?

Thank you

Yes, these are the sort of thing that you should include in your MR request.

Social Support can potentially be provided by a relative, the important thing is that it must be described as Social Support and it must be necessary and provided in the majority of occasions when you are with other people.

Re the Mobility. You have said that you have problems going out and appear to have been awarded points on that basis, ten points for (e). If this is your problem on the majority of days, which again your post suggests, then you cannot score higher for the Going Out activity as Following a Route needs you to be able go out on the majority of days.

So your only option would be to score for the Moving Around activity but you don't indicate that you have any problems with walking!

Thank you Gordon, still feeling very overwhelmed by everything but intend to ring PIP today to request a MR and will be sending a letter tomorrow tracked letter.

I’m wondering if you can comment on average award lengths. Additionally with reference to my previous post does the help to prepare meals and assistance required fit into criteria to look at the award again?

Many thanks

Re Preparing food, you need to be cautious, many of the things you mention appear to be more to do with prompting, you also suggest that you regularly choose an easier option, you can't score for things that you do not do, only those that you cannot do.

There is also an issue with the assistance that you might need, as posted previously this has to be physical help and yet many of the things you refer to do not come under this heading, I am wondering whether you should pursue a need for supervision instead but this will require you to show that there are real dangers to you if you did not receive it, for example; can you provide evidence of the effects of your leaving the hob on or of leaving food cooking?

Thank you for your reply.

I’m getting increasingly confused because my head I’m going round and round feeling totally lost with the descriptors... what is classed as physical assistance? Can you please share because it seems my idea of physical assistance to that which the descriptors indicate.

Thank you for answering and helping Gordon. I appreciate it

It's exactly what it sounds like :)

SO helping you chop onions counts as assistance because it is physical but reminding you to set an alarm is not and would most likely be treated as prompting.
