I have a query which I hope someone can help with please? I have been lucky enough to be recently placed in the enhanced rates for both mobility and daily care for PIP, and placed in the Support Group for ESA, thanks greatly to the guides on this site, without which I wouldn’t have received either. My question is, I am now 61 years old, and will therefore reach the age of state pension at 66, so what will happen to the PIP and ESA, (that’s if I am still receiving them at the time)? Will ESA automatically stop as I would no longer be of working age and in receipt of state pension? Does PIP carry on after retirement age or not, including being able to carry on using Motability vehicles, or would I have to apply for a different benefit and lose the Motability vehicle?
So as you surmised ESA is a working age benefit and will stop when you reach State Retirement Age, depending on your circumstances you may be eligible for Pension Credit, see
PIP will continue past SRA, it starts to increase from 65 at the end of this year, providing you have an award at that time, the only restriction is that the Mobility award you have at SRA cannot be increased once you pass this age. So if you have an Enhanced award then there will be no issue but if it is only standard or you have no award then there will.
