I’m trying to get points for “I need assistance to be able to wash my body between shoulders and waist.” In my mandatory reconsideration decision the HP has written: “You said you have difficulties washing and bathing and require assistance to wash your back and shoulders. For the purpose of this activity, the ability to wash one’s upper spinal region is not considered.” Is this correct? I’m puzzled as to why ‘between shoulders and waist’ doesn’t include the upper part of the spine. In any case I was referring to my back in general and didn’t use the word ‘upper’, so I think I have grounds for appeal, but I’d like to be sure of the details.

The assessor has misunderstood the Descriptor, it reads
f. Needs assistance to be able to wash their body between the shoulders and waist. 4 points.
There is no distinguishment between the front of the body and the back, however, this is about your ability to wash your back not to reach it, so you need to consider whether an aid such as a brush or mitt on a stick would enable you to do this.
