Pension Credit and Universal Credit. was created by bmjohnson
I am 60 and on Contribution based ESA in the support group, my partner is 74 and on a reduced State pension (due to taking time off work to look after the kids). We get Pension credit and I have an underlying entitlement to carer's allowance as my partners carer. I get PIP (Standard Care) and my partner gets DLA (Middle Care).

Due to the changes made to state retirement age I will be of working age for another 6 years. Now because of the coalition moving the goalposts I have to worry about UC and all the other hurdles. They missed one thing though, keep it quiet.but AFAIK overs 60s still get free scripts.

There are 2 things I was curious about. Firstly how does this ruling about ICB to ESA effect me (if at all). The second more worrying is about UC. As mentioned above I would not be worrying about this but now that the government has started on pensioners with the new HB rules and soon to be where their partners are of working age. Will we get caught out and have to lose £100s when moved to UC?

Answering your questions our of order. You will not be required to claim UC, Pension Credit is not a benefit that will be replaced by UC and your ESA(CB) would not be moved to UC even if the PC was not in payment, it is only Income Related ESA that is being moved to UC.

Your situation will be complicated in regard to any missed payments following your transfer to ESA as only one of the Premiums that would be payable is covered by Pension Credit but you may be eligible for some back payments.

You might want to check now about receiving the Severe Disability Premium as your post suggests that you might be eligible for this now.

Thanks for the reply. My main worry was about Universal Credit. I remember when it was first muted it included Pension credit where one partner was of working age. Also we do get HB. We get the Severe Disability Premium. I don't think I missed out when transfered to ESA as my partner was working then. Later when we got PC it was worked out with my ESA taken into account. Just I wondered about all the press (as one does).

Thanks
