Camly

Just ask them, if they cannot provide a supportive statement due to a lack of knowledge about your problems that they then provide a letter that doesn't reference them at all.

No, I don't think the original letter will cause an issue but this is not just about it being treated as evidence you need to be happy with your claim as well, you don't want to submit the letter and then spend the next few months worrying about the content, so please consider this as well.

I was in a similar situation to you. Some of my letters said “—— reports hearing voices”How else could it be said? It didn’t do any harm and I was given PIP enhanced both without a medical.
All the best.

Hi Marnie that's good to know, pleased you got what you entitled to.

It's slightly different in that although i do have mental health issues, this that he was writing about for me was about a physical disability causing problems with cooking etc.
A Dr cant ever really say anything other than patient 'reports' hearing voices, because they are something internal. My problems (in this particular detail) are external rather than subjective & caused by a bodily illness & therefore he should really be able to state whether what he has observed is severe enough to cause me problems with cooking etc. - or at least thats what DWP would think i imagine.

Anyway thanks for sharing that it's good to know.

Gordon!!!! Despite sobbing my heart out with fear for an hour before the call, I plucked up the courage & did what you suggested & he understood & is happy to change it. I havent seen the new letter yet so perhaps shouldnt count my chickens lol, but hopefully it should be much better. Am so relieved thank you so much for helping me :)

I will feel much more settled about sending it without that bit in it. The assessment is due any moment so will let B&W know how i get on.

Thanks again

There has been an unfortunate development....

When i got the amended letter there was a missing word which completely changed the meaning & it made it appear as if my symptoms were tied to when i not in my wheelchair - ie the answer to fix them being to simply use the chair more. I rang & spoke to secretary & she agreed & changed it, adding back the word that had been inadvertently removed during the improvement. - Having typed up the amendments only the day before she clearly remembered what it had said previously so this wasn't an issue

However (I imagine due to his retiring on that day & maybe not having time to get it signed), the final amended letter has no handwritten signature.

It says..

"yours faithfully

Dr Joe Bloggs (typed in slightly larger fancy font to look like handwriting)

Dr Joe Bloggs
A. N. Other Surgery, My town "

This makes me very nervous, surely sending a letter without a handwritten signature will be suspect? Especially as it's got a typed 'to look like a signature' signature in the space where the handwritten on should be.

Is this common acceptable practice or do you guys agree that it will be a problem?
