permitted work

Hello can anyone advise on permitted work having been placed in the support group and higher rate of PIP till 2020.After working hard all my life and becoming ill, I have lost my self esteem but as we all know when we become too unwell to work just living without pain and everyday functioning is our priority.
Part of management of my condition is to manage my symptoms which includes different treatments. Part of my working life was to teach some of these treatments, so I am hoping to start very slowly, this I have no choice in due to relapse. I would like to help others and myself by introducing my 20 years of expertise in this field of Health Sciences as part of working for myself so I can control my hours etc. I have full support from my consultant and GP . If I can just work even 1 hour a week to start week I am hoping to build up as best I can but of course do not want to have trouble with the DWP stopping my financial help or facing what I can only describe after past experience with the DWP a nightmare . I understand the permitted work can be up to 16 hrs a week but when explaining this to an assessor how I can work with my illness, I want to make sure they understand how I manage my illness and how my field of work can benefit me also and maybe help me work part time again in the future. I have lots of information from the various medical organisations which give advice with my illness but was hoping anyone else on the forum could give me any extra advise if they have started doing permitted work

Thanks Gordon any other comments from others appreciated, as you said I must check PW will not contradict the reasons that I have been awarded the ESA Support Group. Whilst starting PW cannot result in my award being removed, it can result in another assessment. I would state that going forward this will benefit my management in the long term and I can only do activity both physical and cognitive on a very limited basis, not in a reliable, timely and safe manner which can be repeated every day, as my application stated backed by many medical support letters and I must rest after any activity, so any other person who has managed this experience where the DWP has deemed them fit for work or made it so distressing to deal with that doing any type of work is not advisable, or on a positive note managed to work and still be supported. The DWP must have some guidelines on the assessment of someone trying to move forward with making things harder or even worse hopefully ?

I know nothing about ESA and Permitted Work, but I wonder if beginning to work the 1 hour voluntarily (ie without pay) might be a way of demonstrating that you are able to undertake the tasks, yet without contravening the ESA PW rules before you move onto paid work?
