TOPIC: DLA Medical query

DLA Medical query 7 years 5 months ago #13661

  • Margaret

My mum recently had her DLA medical visit, the medical lasted over an hour and a thorough physical examination embarrassed my mum greatly. The doctor measured around my mum's calves, wrists and upper arms and we are both wondering why this would be. Has anyone else had these measurements taken?

I am my mum's carer and I am also in receipt of IB. I am too afraid to apply for carer's allowance incase the DWP take me off IB or start looking into my claim again which is not up for review until 2012. Would I be able to apply for it at a later date or is there a time limit and would they want to interview me?

Thank you

Hi Margaret,

As a former nurse, from my experience these measurements are taken to measure any muscle wasting, and compare the left hand side of the body with the right.

Because of the overlapping benefits rules, you can not get Carer’s Allowance if you are in receipt of Incapacity Benefit. See Overlapping Benefits

Kind regards.
